Big Green Egg sizes
Big Green Egg makes seven sizes, from the 10-inch Mini to the 29-inch 2XL, for patio meals and large gatherings. Compare cooking area and weight. Then consider the food you plan to cook, where the EGG will sit, and how often you need to move it.
Specifications were checked on 2026-10-10 against Big Green Egg's size chart, linked product pages, and size comparison.
Start with the food you cook most and the space you have. Compare cooking area, weight, and the manufacturer's capacity notes below. Then check whether your setup has room for the EGG and its base.

Match the size to the cook
Mini
The Mini suits tailgating and boats when you cook for one or two. Big Green Egg lists room for a steak, two pork chops, or two chicken breasts. Its 10-inch grid gives 79 square inches of cooking area, and it weighs 39 pounds. The cooking surface is small.
MiniMax
MiniMax is a portable step up for a boat day or tailgate when you want room for a whole chicken. Big Green Egg lists a 13-inch grid, 133 square inches, and 76 pounds, with an ideal capacity of 1 to 3 people. Its carrier matters when the EGG travels.
Small
For a condo lanai on Siesta Key, compare the available footprint with the building's fire rules and the manufacturer's safety guidance. Small has a 13-inch grid and 133 square inches of cooking area. It weighs 80 pounds. Big Green Egg lists it for 1 to 3 people.
Medium
For a family of four in Palmer Ranch, Medium is a useful size to compare first. Big Green Egg recommends Medium for a family of four. Its official page lists a 15-inch grid, 177 square inches, and 114 pounds. Its cooking area is larger than Small's.
Large
Consider Large when a whole turkey or brisket is part of the plan. Big Green Egg lists 262 square inches and 162 pounds, with capacity for a 20-pound turkey on the product page. It can fit family meals that take more time to cook.
XL
For two briskets plus sides, consider the XL. Its 24-inch grid gives 452 square inches, and the manufacturer lists 219 pounds and an ideal capacity of 6 to 12 people. The larger grate area helps when the meat is only part of the meal.
2XL
2XL is the catering-scale choice. Big Green Egg lists 672 square inches, a 29-inch grid, 375 pounds, and an ideal capacity of 12 to 20 people. It fits large gatherings and cooks who use that space often. Moving 375 pounds takes planning.
The right grid changes the cook.
Nests, tables and built-in islands
Big Green Egg lists a Nest, a table, or the Modular Nest System as setup choices. Its outdoor kitchen guide explains the Modular Nest options. For a fixed island, Big Green Egg's safety tips say to maintain an air gap around the EGG.
Big Green Egg's warranty terms say not to place an EGG directly on a combustible surface. They call for a BGE Metal Nest, Metal Table Nest, or another fireproof barrier. A Table Nest belongs inside a table, island, or surround. Only Mini and MiniMax have a low-profile Nest designed as a free-standing base. Check these placement rules when planning an island.
We design outdoor kitchens, provide installers, and support the manufacturer's warranty.
| Manufacturer setup choices | Nest, table, Modular Nest System |
|---|---|
| Modular Nest starting point | Nest Frame |
| Built-in safety note | Maintain a sufficient air gap around the EGG |
| Free-standing low-profile Nest | Mini and MiniMax only |
Try before you buy
Pinecraft rents the Large and XL for one day through fourteen days, so you can see how the footprint works beside your patio, pool deck, or prep table. The Sarasota showroom is at 3303 Bahia Vista St. Sample Saturdays are a good time to see an EGG cooking.
Bring the cook you want to make, perhaps a turkey at Thanksgiving or a brisket overnight. Compare the 177-square-inch Medium with the 262-square-inch Large by cooking area, then ask about the support base and the space around it.
EGGcessories that change the size you need
The convEGGtor is a heat-directing barrier. Big Green Egg's guide to the convEGGtor says it turns the EGG into an outdoor convection oven for indirect cooking, smoking, roasting, and baking. This lets one cooker handle more kinds of cooking.
The EGGspander uses interchangeable parts for direct heat, indirect heat, raised cooking, and multi-tier setups. Big Green Egg lists those features, a convEGGtor basket, a multi-level rack, two half grids, and a cooking height of 2.5 to 6.5 inches on its 5-Piece EGGspander page. The 2-Piece Multi-Level Rack can be used upside down for low-level "Cowboy Style" grilling.
Care for a coastal EGG
For a Siesta Key or Longboat Key setup, check the metal parts around the ceramic cooker. Big Green Egg's warranty terms say extreme humidity and sodium chloride can corrode finishes on metal components such as bands, hinges, grids, and draft doors. Its safety tips recommend a heavy-duty, ventilated cover and a wind-sheltered spot to limit moisture buildup.
That is the practical coastal note: protect the metal, keep the cooker safely supported, and follow the manufacturer's manual when planning a built-in island. Read our outdoor kitchen guide for salt air and humidity before you choose the finish and support system.
